The First Nevil Reunions

The annual Nevil Reunion tradition started long ago, perhaps in the late 1920's or early 1930's. The reunion was simply a "get together" for the sons and daughters of Broox and Susie Nevil. The photo below shows one such family gathering at Broox and Susie's home at Blue Ridge, Texas.
As the family grew (well, at least beyond the 10 immediate siblings) the old home place was just not big enough. So the clan moved the annual get together to Finch Park in McKinney, Texas. The wide open space worked well for the young and growing family. It permitted the older group to sit and visit at the picnic tables while providing ample room for the kids to run and play.
Sometime in the 1970's or 1980's someone figured out that Finch Park in June was just a little too hot for comfort. So the venue was changed to the old community center at Blue Ridge, Texas. This worked well, and was only a few blocks from the old home place.
In 1999-2000 Blue Ridge tore down the old community center and built a brand new, air conditioned facility.
The Nevil's have continued the tradition and meet every year on the first Sunday after Father's Day, at the new Blue Ridge community center. The reunion has expanded well beyond the immediate family of Broox and Susie, and now includes all descendants of Thomas Nevil of Amherst County Virginia.
